This is the ‘winding down’ period for Rachel and Ash but there is still plenty to do, such as sweet pea sowing and planting out the October-sown plants. Rachel demonstrates her rose pruning technique to ensure later and stronger flowering plants, as well as pruning woody foliage shrubs in order to produce lots of material for cutting.

The physical work outside gets done now and winter protection is put in place for the coldest period of the year. Supports are installed for the herbaceous Clematis, which are such a favourite for pedestal arrangements all summer long.
